Designees are required to obtain a minimum of 36 hours of CPE in each three-year period in valuation, litigation, or fraud consulting (1/2 of CPE needs to be Business Valuation or Lititgation related), for which they will receive 50 points towards fulfilling the 100-point requirement.

Evidence of compliance means attesting to which courses—or parts of courses taken—meet the requirement. NACVA has not defined specific approved courses, but any course or conference with valuation, litigation or fraud in its title would clearly apply. There will be gray areas, i.e., courses having some application to these disciplines, and we ask designees to use their best judgment to determine compliance and the appropriate hours to report. NACVA reserves the right to request more specific proof or evidence of course attendance and content, upon which full determination can be made as to actual compliance with our CPE requirement.

Additional points will be awarded designees who can demonstrate having earned applicable CPE in “excess” of their 36-hour requirement, where each additional CPE hour will equal one point up to a maximum of 25 additional points. For example, a designee who meets the experience criterion in section IV below could fulfill his or her 100-point recertification requirement with 61 hours of applicable CPE, i.e., 61–36 = 25 excess hours CPE worth 25 points. Total points equal 100: 25 for experience, 50 for meeting the 36-hour CPE minimum, and 25 for having taken 25 excess hours CPE. Second example: a designee who can demonstrate having completed 80 hours of applicable CPE during his or her cycle will receive 50 points for having fulfilled the 36-hour minimum requirement, and 25 points for 25 excess hours CPE (80–36 = 44 excess hours of CPE of which only 25 hours can be applied) for a total of 75 points. The balance of 25 points to fulfill the 100-point recertification requirement can be obtained by participating in one of two NACVA recommended programs, either KCD or KQI or possibly through Professional Development activities.
