Points for Participating in NACVA Recommended Programs
NACVA offers two programs it considers helpful and beneficial to valuators at all levels, each addressing a different aspect of a professional’s ongoing development needs:  A. Knowledge of Current Developments (KCD) and, B. Knowledge of Quality Issues (KQI).  Participation in either of these programs will award the designee 25 points.  Participation in both will award 50 points.  More specifically, these programs are as follows:

Knowledge of Current Developments (KCD)
It is recommended that designees take NACVA’s course entitled, “Current Update in Valuations" (CUV) in each three-year Reporting Cycle toward satisfying their recertification requirement.  The 8 hours CPE awarded for CUV can be included in the CPE reporting requirement in section I above, plus the designee will receive 25 points toward the 100-point requirement for having taken CUV.  NACVA makes its CUV course available at most of our events and locations.  It is also available in a self-study format (12 hours CPE) and a four-part webinar series (2 hours CPE each webinar) for a total of eight CPE hours.

Knowledge of Quality Issues (KQI)

It is recommended designees participate in NACVA's "Knowledge of Quality Issues" (KQI) program in each three-year Reporting Cycle. There are five options to do so: (1) by participating in a Case Analysis by Phone (or in person) (CAP) (2 hours CPE); (2) by completing NACVA's Quality Enhancement Questionnaire (QEQ) (2 hours CPE); (3) by submitting a sanitized business valuation report, prepared in the last 12 months, representative of your work product, for review and grading by NACVA's Valuation Credentialing Board (VCB) or designated body (this option does not qualify for CPE and a separate fee applies; and (4) by attending the live NACVA endorsed course entitled "Advanced Techniques for Exceptional Report Writing" (8 hours CPE) or take the three-part webinar series (6 hours CPE), and (5) by attending the NACVA webinar "Working through the BV Standards and Ethics Maze" (2 hours CPE).

The purpose of KQI is to provide a measure of quality control over designees’ work product, giving our membership and the business valuation user-community added assurance our members are performing services that meet with an acceptable level of quality and competence.

OPTION 1
Case Analysis by Phone™ (CAP), or Case Analysis in Person (CAP)
Case Analysis by Phone
(CAP) allows six to ten participants to review, discuss and analyze a sanitized business valuation report (usually submitted by a CAP participant) sent to partcipants 2-3 weeks prior to a scheduled conference by telephone. The two-hour CAP conference call quailifies for CPE towards your 36 hour requirement. CAP is offered at set times, monthly, with multiple telephone sessions with a critique summary and recommendations for improvement. You will find this option with available dates on the QE Registration form on page 8 of the recertification brochure.

Case Analysis in Person (also known as CAP) is much like Case Analysis by Phone, in that it includes the same number of participants but in a roundtable "live" discussion format. These sessions are offered at NACVA's Annual BV Conference, at all Consultants' Training Institutes, and most BV Certification Training Centers see page 8 of recertification brochure for our dates and locations. The 2 hours of CPE credit can be used towards your CPE reporting.

In Office (CAP)
Applicants may conduct and provide evidence of participation in a BV case review roundtable in-office, similar to NACVA's Case Analysis by Phone (CAP) (or in person) process, where four or more valuation professionals review and critique a valuation report together in a formal setting using the CAP review procedures approved by NACVA's Valuation Education and Credentialing Board. Reports reviewed can be submitted by a participant, or non-participant, or acquired from NACVA's BV Reports Library. Evidence of participation includes providing NACVA a copy of the report used, and attendance roster signed by each attendee, a statement as to the amount of time spent discussing the report at the roundtable (should be a minimum of 1 1/2 – 2 hours) and time spent reviewing the report prior to the roundtable, and a conclusions and recommendations report of the roundtable discussion documenting each participant's input to the conclusions and recommendations made.

Applicants must submit a fee of $160 (for each NACVA participant in the roundtable) along with their written request, to NACVA's Member Services Department in order to conduct an in-office/in-firm CAP program. The request will be reviewed and processed.

OPTION 2
Quality Enhancement Questionnaire
Complete the Quality Enhancement Questionnaire consisting of approximately (80) questions and then be interviewed by one of NACVA's QE Team (QET) reviewers via phone to discuss the answers. This process takes one to two hours and provides constructive feedback on issues which might effect quality in your work, alerts you to specific and relevant concerns, and points out processes that could be enhanced. A requirement imposed on QET reviewers is that all records and notes taken during a review be destroyed. The individual being reviewed, however, may request all notes and records taken be sent to him/her. 2 hours of CPE are awarded and can be used towards fulfilling your NACVA CPE requirement. Upon completion of this process, HQ will document compliance and issue a CPE attestation form for members to sign and file for their records. See page 10 of the Recertification Brochure for registration.

OPTION 3
Submit Own Sanitized Report for Grading
Members may apply to waive NACVA's KQI program in their current Reporting Cycle.

To do so designees must have two years or more of full-time experience in business valuation (BV) or an equivalent thereof, and must submit a sanitized business valuation report, prepared in the last 12 months, representative of their work product, for their review and grading by NACVA's Valuation Credentialing Board (VCB) or designated body. A fee must be submitted along with the WKQI Submission Form. This alternative does not qualify for CPE.

If the applicant's report does not pass upon review, the applicant may reapply under this alternative or may participate in a Case Analysis session sponsored by NACVA; additional fees will apply.

OPTION 4
Participation in NACVA's Advanced Techniques for Exceptional Report Writing Course
See Consultants' Training Institute schedule for available dates and locations for the NACVA "live" Report Writing course (8 hours CPE). Also available is a three-part webinar series (2 hours each webinar for a total of 6 hours CPE). See page 10 of the Recertification Brochure for dates.

OPTION 5
Attending the NACVA webinar, “Working through the BV Standards and Ethics Maze” (2 hours CPE). You will find this option with available dates on page 11 of the recertification brochure.
